What’s The Best Debt Advice Book? The Debt Advice Handbook.
The Debt Advice Handbook (ISBN 1-901698-88-2) published by the Child Poverty Action Group (cpap.org.uk) is currently the most honest and information debt advice guide available for those living in England and Wales.
Now in it’s 7th Edition, The Debt Advice Handbook runs to almost 500 pages.
Many debt solution companies such as ourselves use this as essential training material for staff. We always have several well thumbed copied around the office. The book is aimed at the debt advice professional rather than the average consumer but makes for great reading for anyone experiencing debt problems. It covers in great detail advice for many sets of circumstances, including dealing in bad debt collection practice and legal rights.
As the book is for UK readership, there is extensive coverage of the UK benefit system, taxation and English and Welsh Law on bankruptcy and IVA’s (Different Laws apply in Scotland). A new edition is produced each year, so the information is accurate and up-to date.
“An essential reference for all who work in debt advice” is how the chief executive of the Citizens Advice Bureau describes it.

What’s the worst debt advice book?
Bad advice is often when you think you’re getting impartial advice but someone is selling you something. Therefore a contender for this title is “IVA, Bankruptcy and Other Debt Solutions: The Definitive Guide” by James Falla”.
The title of this book is misleading as it is far from “The Definitive Guide” (70 pages of large print + an appendix of 30 pages to fill it out). It is produced by Thomas Charles Ltd, the insolvency practice arm of The Accuma Group, to promote their IVA product. It gives the impression that they are the only company to offer an IVA service.
The content of the book is fine, so long as the reader understands they are reading marketing material aimed at talking up IVA’s above other debt solutions. “Ground-breaking” as self descibed on the cover, it is not.
