Slash Supermarket Spend By Some Simple Planning.

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Save up to 30% of your grocery spend by planning a weekly menu.

This is something I’ve tried  -  and it works.

Most people stroll around the supermarket filling their basket with whatever they fancy at the time. The problem comes when they open the fridge at home and don’t fancy eating that item until it’s beyond it best by date.

It’s well known that without a proper shopping list, you end up buying more than you need  - the surplus ends up in the bin.

My family have taken planing a proper list to the extreme. We shop for a family of four. We draw up a menu for an entire week. The only perishable food we buy is what’s needed for that menu. By the end of the week, the fridge is virtually empty again and we find we throw almost nothing out. Non perishable food does not need the same level of planing as it can be used over a longer period.

Another advantage of menu planning it that we now eat a wider variety of meals as before we were limited to whatever we happened to have in at the time.

So of you are trying to manage debt as well as a family shopping budget, as always, planning what you need to spend and sticking to it saves money.
